Soon Wong Vegetarian Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Soon Wong Vegetarian Restaurant feels like entering a gentle pause amid the bustling streets of Melaka. The space moves at a comfortable, unhurried rhythm, inviting you to slow down and savor the quieter moments that often accompany a thoughtfully prepared meal. It’s a place where local flavors come together with familiar warmth, creating an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and quietly celebratory.
The restaurant’s laid-back, buffet-style approach offers a relaxed kind of freedom — you choose your portions, you explore at your own pace, and you can taste a colorful array of dishes that remind you of traditional Malaysian kitchens, all lovingly adapted to a vegetarian palette. Here, the experience isn’t just about what’s on your plate, but the simple joy of discovery that comes with it: the comforting bitterness of a well-crafted Lei Cha, the gentle spice of a coconut curry, or the way a smooth, nutty tau foo fah quietly rounds off the meal like a fond farewell.
Gathering around the communal spirit of home-cooked food, Soon Wong feels much less like a restaurant and more like a shared neighborhood table. The kind gestures from the staff enhance this feeling — their attentiveness is a soft thread woven through the food experience, quietly ensuring that every visitor finds something to enjoy, whether it’s a familiar favorite or something new to explore.
While parking along the main road can require a bit of patience, the space itself is generously sized, offering an easygoing backdrop to the casual clatter of plates and hushed conversations. Those who come early might find it a stiller, more intimate affair, perfect for soaking in the subtleties of flavors and textures that define Soon Wong’s menu.
For anyone who appreciates vegetarian cuisine that draws from local heritage without fuss, this is a spot where each visit offers small moments of comfort, curiosity, and connection — a subtle reminder that food, at its best, nourishes far beyond hunger.

Definetly the best we have eaten in Malaysia so far. Do many options of vegetables! And you can buy fruit as well. They have tempeh, tofu, vegetables, spicy, not spicy.. even banana bread! The ladys working here are also super kind and will help you with everything you need. Would come back here a 1000 times!!!

A buffet-style vegetarian restaurant. You can eat whatever you like and as much as you like. Even though it's a vegetarian restaurant, you'll be impressed by how many recipes are the same as those found in a typical Malaysian restaurant. My recommendation is “Lei cha “, which is Japanese matcha served with seasoned soup to remove the bitterness.

I always come back for their Lei Cha (擂茶)and love their wide variety of dishes available for a vegetarian zap fan (杂饭) meal. Don’t forget to complete your meal with their homemade tau foo fah (豆腐花) I highly recommend the black sesame flavoured one. It is smooth, nutty and refreshing. Sweetness is moderate and portion is good for one person or sharing among 2, if only you could share! Free Chinese tea and drinking water. Self-service. Fresh fruits, biscuits and snacks are also available to purchase here. Workers are helpful and cheery. This place looks hygienic to me and the indoor dining area is cooling. Reasonable pricing. I’m a local and this is one of my go-to restaurants despite not being a vegetarian. Find more food reviews on my Instagram @NibblesOnMars

Located on the main road, parking may be a challenge. Fairly spacious, there was a large variety for mix rice and some prepared noodles on the side too. Freshly prepared noodle items available too, but takes time. A variety of beverage & nyonya kuihs available, including curry puffs & cake. Some fresh fruits & snacks sold too. Very reasonable pricing. Take-away available. Less crowd in the morning.

Self helped to 2 full plates of noodles with vegetarian dishes, at RM$21.5. Foods were good, worth a try. Chilli sauce has spicy kick :) Many dishes to choose from. Nonya Kuehs available too. Rem to clear cutlery to collection point.
